During her tenure in Atlanta, she earned three Emmy Awards: one for best weathercaster in the Southeast and two for specialty fore coverage. Readers of Jezebel Magazine voted her “Favorite Weathercaster in Atlanta” in 2011.
Her broadcasting career started when she was chosen as one of two graduate students to forecast for Penn State’s daily weather journal, “Weather World” – a program that has a surprisingly large following in Pennsylvania.
She then moved to Fresno, California, to serve as a weekend meteorologist at KMPH and later KFSN. Soon after joining KFSN, she was promoted to news anchor for the station’s top-rated morning show.
She was promoted to WTVD in Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina, after a couple of years honing her broadcasting and forecasting skills. Joanne worked as the Chief Meteorologist for five years, tracking tornado outbreaks, a historic ice storm, and several hurricanes, including Hurricane Isabel’s landfall in 2003.
