Jason began his career in Bloomington, Indiana at the Herald-Times, he was employed part-time. He got his first full-time job at The Charlotte Observer as a reporter in 1991. ThenJason went to The Ann Arbor News, where he covered the University of Michigan, which was after a year later.

He was employed at The Kansas City Star in1994, but, got suspended for heckling fans at a Kansas City Chiefs game by the magazine in 1998. Jason then got the National Journalism Award and $10,000 prize, on March 7, 2008, he was the first sportswriter to get that award, but he left the magazine on August 16, 2010.

In 2016, Jason commenced Speak for yourself, the show that aired on Fox Sports 1, it was co-hosted by Cowherd well-known as Colin Murray together him, but later after four years, his contract was not renewed after the parties involved could not agree.

In 2002, he joined  ESPN as a writer, after four years he left and began working for AOL Sports in 2006,  on September 29, 2006, Jason first AOL Sports column was published. As of now, he works on Blaze Media on a show titled Fearless with Jason as a host, it started in June 2021.
